Description: Dance terms extracted through webscraping process, for Salsa and Cha-Cha-Cha to demonstrate that the development of a (Latin) dance ontology is possible and can be further developed by experts using this method.
This was part of Dollie's honours project. A video and the project report can be found at https://projects.cs.uct.ac.za/honsproj/cgi-bin/view/2020/dollie_joseph.zip/METADANCE.html
Title: Latin Dance Ontology
version 1.1. Mainly cleaned up the original a bit for online release wiht the final IRI, added a few annotations to indicate some loose ends and provide some context.
see annotation in partOf. the 'contains' here is not in the strict sense of the taxonomy of parthood, but to stick some lable to the relation between a dance adn the syllabus.
this relation is used in the sense of some move being danced in the dance style. liek a Suzie-Q is a move in Salsa
This is a very generic partOf, and ontologically a bit shaky on how it is used now; this likely will change with the next version. The plan was to relate a move to when in the syllabus it is typically taught, to give an indication of level of difficulty.
What has yet to be added is the *involved in* or *involves* variety of parthood, between a dance move and the actions that are part of it.
A difference is made between a move and an action, where an action is part of a move. A 'move' is the term we used for the whole thing that is named that happens in the 8 count beat, whereas an action is a part of it, like the lead raising their left arm so that the follow can do a turn.
Then there are acitons that are more like positions; they have not been separated out yet.
ambiguous term to be cleared up. can be a move or an action. or to be distinguished with the 'basic move'
action or move?
action or move?
abbreviation: CBL
sounds like action, not move
terms correspond to typical names of the levels in ballroom dancing, from the text gathered. one could consider adding other terms, such as introduction, improver, intermediate etc etc
This is a 'bucket' that contains both terms from Cha Cha Cha and from Salsa. A difference is made between a move and an action, where an action is part of a move. A 'move' is the term we used for the whole thing that is named that happens in the 8 count beat, whereas an action is a part of it, like the lead raising their left arm so that the follow can do a turn.
